Black Issues in Higher Education Black Issues in Higher Education is the nation's only news magazine dedicated exclusively to minority issues in higher education. American Association of People with Disabilities AAPD is the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan,cross disability organization in the United States. Among the organization's purposes are furthering productivity, independence, full citizenship and total integration of people with disabilities into all aspects of life.
Affirmative Action Register The National EEO recruitment publication directed to females, minorities, veterans, and disabled persons, as well as to all employment candidates. Can be searched by employer name, state or title.
Association for Women in Science The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) was founded to expand educational and employment opportunities for women in sciences.

Society of Women Engineers The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) encourages women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expands the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrates the value of diversity.

Graduate School Office of Diversity Resources The working mission of this office is to promote a diverse and inclusive graduate community by helping departments and programs recruit, mentor, and graduate targeted minority students.
Equity and Diversity Resource Center (EDRC) EDRC’s primary goals are to: (1) provide leadership and consultation to develop and implement equity and diversity strategies throughout the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2) assist faculty, staff, and students to develop learning and work environments that promote excellence and respect; and (3) coordinate campus compliance with affirmative action and equal opportunity requirements. WISELI The Women In Science & Engineering Leadership Institute (WISELI) is a centralized, visible administrative structure with a mission to address a number of impediments to women’s academic advancement. WISELI’s several initiatives involve providing workshops, on-line resources, formal and informal networking groups as well as other programs to address priority issues. Ph. 263-1445.
OHRD/Cultural Linguistic Services The mission of CLS is: (1)Build a bridge of communication between employees and managers/supervisors. (2) Identify professional development and learning opportunities for employees with Limited English Proficiency. (3) Provide support to University employees and managers/supervisors to address workplace climate and culture issues. (4) Provide a variety of translation services for employees and departments.
Wisconsin Alliance for Minority Participation (WISCAMP) Molly Carnes & Doug Henderson, Co-PIs, Executive Director, Manuela Romero. Wisc-AMP brings together 21 public and private institutions of higher education in Wisconsin committed to collectively doubling the number of underrepresented minority students receiving baccalaureate degrees in science and engineering majors. Mentoring: Report of the Mentoring Workgroup (pdf) This substantial report was created in 2002 by the New York State Department of Civil Service and the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations. It describes successful programs in use in New York State, provides straightforward tips for good mentoring, and gives a helpful bibliography of additional resources. A good one-stop resource.
Mentoring: Teaching What It Means to Be a Leader Scientist Terry Little describes the ways he has provided informal mentoring to his co-workers and identifies its usefulness.
How to Get the Mentoring You Want: A Guide for Graduate Students at a Diverse University At this site, you can choose to download a pdf aimed at a graduate student audience, this guide from the University of Michigan helps individuals be proactive in getting the mentoring they need and want.
Adviser, Teacher, Role Model, Friend: On Being a Mentor to Students in Science and Engineering
Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy, National Academy Press, Washington D.C., 1997. While the focus is on mentoring within the student-adviser relationship, this book provides concrete examples of mentoring within the sciences and engineering (this site shows pages in the book).
Characteristics and Challenges in Academic Mentoring (pdf) Graduate Quarterly, 2000, vol 10(1), pp 6-11. This short article from UCLA’s graduate publication provides a quick overview of student-adviser mentoring.
How to Mentor Graduate Students: A Guide for Faculty in a Diverse University At this site, you can choose to download a pdf that emphasizes student-adviser relationships, but also provides a lot of “how tos” for mentors who are new to mentoring and committed to diversity of all kinds.
Mentoring in Engineering Workshop (PAESMEM/Stanford School of Engineering June, 2004). The full workshop proceedings are available at the workshop website in both pdf format for printing and html format for Web viewing.
E-mentoring for women in engineering and the sciences-Mentor.net About 3000 students participate nationally, mostly women undergraduate engineering majors. They want more grads to participate and they are recruiting mentors w/advanced degrees in industry and at colleges and universities.
