As a follow-up to Dean Martin T. Cadwallader’s memorandum of September 1, 2003 updating the UW-Madison Policy for Supplementation and Concurrent Appointment for Graduate Students Holding Predoctoral Fellowships or Traineeships, the Graduate School has revised the Concurrent Appointment Maxima (CAM) worksheet to reflect changes in the policy. The changes on the worksheet are:
- Tuition and fees paid by the student will not be added to the stipend
to establish equity with Research Assistant stipends. Tuition and fees
paid by the student from their fellowship or traineeship stipend is
instead subtracted from the stipend due to the waiver of resident tuition
RA’s receive.
- Equity supplementation (Part 2 on the 2002-03 version of the CAM
worksheet) dollars provided by the Graduate School are no longer available.
- The maximum concurrent appointment level for predoctoral students receiving major fellowship or traineeship awards of $17,430 (equivalent of a 50% 12 month RA appointment) or $14,247 (equivalent of a 50% 9 month RA appointment) is 33.3%.
A copy of the CAM worksheet is at http://info.gradsch.wisc.edu/admin/budgetpersonnel/cam.pdf and two samples are found at http://info.gradsch.wisc.edu/admin/budgetpersonnel/camsam1.pdf and http://info.gradsch.wisc.edu/admin/budgetpersonnel/camsam2.pdf. Last year’s worksheet and samples dated June 2002 should not be used. Note: Samples involving concurrent TA/PA appointments use 2002-2003 rates, since 2003-2004 stipend levels have not yet been determined. Also a Fact Sheet of frequently asked questions regarding the supplementation policy and CAM worksheet is found at http://info.gradsch.wisc.edu/admin/budgetpersonnel/factsheet.html.
The CAM worksheet should be used for graduate students that hold predoctoral fellowships or traineeships. Please note: the CAM worksheet should be filled out only for the period of time that the individual holds a fellowship or traineeship. Appointments held before or after the fellowship or traineeship are not relevant and should not be included on the CAM worksheet.
If you have any questions regarding the CAM worksheet, please contact Julie Karpelenia at 2-8389 or by e-mail at karpelenia@bascom.wisc.edu.
Note: The CAM worksheet is intended to complement the Maximum Levels of Graduate Assistantship Appointments policy and Request for Exception form issued by Dean Cadwallader on September 1, 2003. You should continue to use that suggested format when graduate student appointments do not include a fellowship or traineeship.
