Included in this table are all students listing this major as their first major. However, they may be paid by a different department. These figures do not represent the proportion of dollars paid in each category.

For each student who is paid as a Fellow, Trainee, PA, RA, or TA anywhere in the University and for whom this major is listed as the first major, 1 (one) is added to the number of students supported. However, because some students receive more than one kind of support, fractions are apportioned among support categories. For example, a student with a 40% appointment as an RA and a 40% appointment as a TA adds .5 to the number of RAs and .5 to the number of TAs no matter how much the student is paid: that student has a total 80% appointment, half of which is TA and half RA.
