Welcome to the University of Wisconsin Madison! We are delighted that you will be joining our university community. The students, staff and faculty are the reason UW-Madison is a great university, so we are always excited to welcome our outstanding new graduate students. While you are here pursuing your graduate education, we want you to make the most of all the resources that the campus and the city of Madison have to offer. This is truly a wonderful place in which to live and work.
The Graduate School's mission is to foster excellence in research and graduate education. We are here to help you in any way we can. You are joining a large family of almost 9,000 graduate students drawn from all over the country and most parts of the world. Each of you brings a unique intellectual, personal, and family history that enriches our academic community. You are also a part of a research enterprise that generates over $550 million in annual support. We have uniformly strong programs in the arts and humanities and all areas of the biological, physical, and social sciences.
We are always working to improve graduate education, so please feel free to share your ideas with us. We hope to enhance your lives from the moment you enter to the time you graduate and join over 300,000 living alumni around the world.
