Human Research Protection Program
Updated Human Subjects Polices, Guidance and Forms Available
March 15, 2007Faculty members and staff who plan to conduct research involving human subjects should be aware that updated Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies and procedures, and investigator guidance and forms have been posted on the Human Research Protection Program website. Please consult these policies, guidance documents and forms when preparing a research project for review by a UW-Madison IRB.
The policies, guidance and forms were written and revised as part of the UW-Madison’s application for accreditation of the University's Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), including the campus' four Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). The accrediting agency is the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP). AAHRPP is a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by the Association of American Medical Colleges, Association of American Universities, Consortium of Social Science Associations, Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, National Health Council, and Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research.
The accreditation process includes two phases: preparation of a written application addressing each of the AAHRPP accreditation standards and a site visit by a team of professionals assembled by AAHRPP to inspect program operations.
Watch this space for further information, including the dates of the up-coming site visit, as it becomes available.
Additional information about AAHRPP and the UW-Madison's accreditation activities is available on the Accreditation link on the HRPP webpage.
Questions or comments about the accreditation process and the updated policies and procedures, investigator guidance and forms can be sent to HRPP@bascom.wisc.edu.
