Submission Guidelines
Timing of IRB Review
Protocols are processed in the order that they are received by the IRB office.
Principal Investigators should submit protocols just as soon as they have all information necessary to complete the forms.
Protocols need to be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the meeting dates. All deadlines and meeting dates are available by selecting the Meeting Date menu item on the left side menu.
Expedited protocols submitted by the deadlines will be reviewed by the expedited panel on the dates listed.
Protocols requiring review by the full IRB will be reviewed by the full committee at the next meeting after a submission deadline.
Protocol Submission Tips
Protocols must be submitted electronically via the WebKit.
Protocols can only be submitted by individuals who have the authority to serve as Principal Investigators of research projects at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Please note that graduate students do not have the authority to serve as Principal Investigator on a protocol. It is Principal Investigator’s responsibility to assure that the application contains complete and accurate information for review. Protocols cannot be processed until the Principal Investigator and all key personnel show evidence of completing the appropriate training and education.
Although investigators will indicate on their protocol application whether they believe the protocol is eligible for an exemption from IRB review or should be considered for expedited or full committee review, the Education Research IRB retains the perogative to make the final determination about the review category.
Checklist for Protocol Submission
Researchers, including students, could refer to the Research Protocol and Consent Procedure Checklist before submitting your protocol to ensure that all of the required information is included in the submission to the Education Research IRB.
