UW-Madison Human Research Protection Program: Accreditation
Accreditation Site Visit Scheduled
April 17, 2007The UW-Madison has scheduled a site visit by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP) for the week of September 24, 2007 as the next step in seeking accreditation of its Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), which includes the UW-Madison Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). A team of professionals assembled by AAHRPP will spend four days on campus reviewing UW-Madison's program operations. The site visit will include interviews by the site visitors of IRB members, investigators, research coordinators, and administrators and staff of the IRBs and the Office of Research Policy.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies and procedures, and investigator guidance and forms were written and revised as part of the UW-Madison’s written application for accreditation, submitted in December 2006, and have been posted on the Human Research Protection Program website. Please consult these policies, guidance documents and forms when preparing a research project for review by a UW-Madison IRB.
The accrediting agency is the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP). AAHRPP is a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by the Association of American Medical Colleges, Association of American Universities, Consortium of Social Science Associations, Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, National Health Council, and Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research.
