The Graduate School is announcing new procedures for nominating and selecting junior faculty members for fellowships that limit the number of applicants that may be submitted from an individual institution.
Unlike previous years, the Graduate School will not announce calls for nominees for each of the individual programs throughout the year. Rather, departments will submit their nominations for all of the programs below at one time, by the July 25 deadline. Applicants who are applying to more than one program will submit only one proposal for internal review rather than separate proposals for each program.
Programs affected by the new internal competitions procedure
- Beckman Young Investigators Program
- Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Awards for Medical Scientists (CAMS)
- Burroughs Wellcome Fund Investigators in Pathogenesis of Infectious Diseases Program
- W.M. Keck Distinguished Young Scholars in Medical Research Award
- John Merck Fund Scholars Program in the Biology of Developmental Disabilities in Children
- Microsoft New Faculty Fellowship Program
- Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences
- Searle Scholars Program
Although we anticipate that all of these programs will be offered again in this coming year, many of the program competitions have not yet been announced by their funding organizations. For this reason, the memos linked to the program names above contain instructions for applying last year.
Eligibility
The department is responsible for determining the eligibility for the nominees based on the previous year’s agency guidelines. We assume the eligibility criteria will remain the same as last year. For last year's eligibility guidelines, please refer to the program links above. As in previous years, each department is limited to nominating one candidate per fellowship program.
