The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) has announced a call for nominees for its program, Career Awards at the Scientific Interface. The program fosters the early career development of postdoctoral researchers with backgrounds in the physical/computational sciences whose work addresses questions in biomedical science and who are dedicated to pursuing a career in academic research. The awards provide $500,000 over five years to bridge advanced postdoctoral training and the early years of faculty service.
Candidates are expected to draw from their training in a scientific field other than biology to propose innovative approaches to answer important questions in the biological sciences. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, chemistry (physical, theoretical or computational), computer sciences, statistics, or engineering (exceptions may be made only if the applicant can demonstrate significant expertise in one of these areas, evidenced by publications or advanced course work), and have completed at least 6 months but not more than 48 months of postdoctoral research training at the time of application. No more than one nominee from an institution may be a temporary resident of the U.S. Institutions with questions about the eligibilty of nominees based on their immigration status must contact BWF.
Please carefully review BOTH the brochure and the BWF web site for eligibility criteria, application instructions, and FAQs.

We request that any single department submit no more than one nomination for this or any internal competition. The Graduate School will convene an ad hoc committee to review the applications and select the final candidates.
Applicants should submit the following for the internal review: title page with applicant information, scientific abstract, research plan (maximum 6 pages), CV, faculty sponsor letter, graduate advisor letter, and (optional) statements of collaboration. The following are not required for the internal review: citizenship/residency documentation, bibliography, letters of recommendation except for the faculty sponsor letter and graduate advisor letter, reprints, signature pages, and institutional nomination.
Five copies of the application should be delivered to the Graduate School (333 Bascom Hall) by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14.
Applications from nominees selected in the internal competition must be submitted electronically through proposalCENTRAL, and hard copies of the signature form must be sent to BWF by the May 1 deadline.
