Deadlines: Intent to submit a proposal is due Wednesday, September 13; proposal for internal review is due Wednesday, September 20; NSF deadline is Wednesday, November 15.
The National Science Foundation has issued the announcement for the Active Nanostructures and Nanosystems (ANN) program for 2007, which includes
the two categories listed above. The solicitation may be found at the following url:
http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2006/nsf06595/nsf06595.htm
The program supports collaborative research and education in the area of active nanostructures and nanosystems and on the long-term social change associated with these innovations. The goal of this program is to support fundamental research and catalyze synergistic science and engineering research and education in several emerging areas of nanoscale science and technology, including: active nanostructures; nanosystems with improved functionality and new architectures; hierarchical nanomanufacturing; and long-term societal and educational implications of scientific and technological advances on the nanoscale.
The number of applications UW–Madison may submit is limited:
UW-Madison may submit no more than two NIRT proposals on which UW-Madison is the lead organization; UW-Madison may submit no more than two NER proposals as the lead organization, except one more NER proposal may be submitted if the proposal is in the area of societal and educational issues.
Send an email message to gsgrants@bascom.wisc.edu by the September 13 deadline notifying us of your intent to apply. Include the following:
• name and full contact information for the PI
• the names and departments of CoPIs
• proposal title or topic area
• brief project description (2-3 sentences)
• type of NSF-ANN project (NIRT or NER)
• indicate if your proposal fits into the societal and educational issues category for the NER competition
The Graduate School will convene an ad hoc committee to review the preproposals and to select the projects to be forwarded to NSF. Submit five copies of the preproposal for the internal review including:
• name and full contact information for the PI
• the names and departments of CoPIs
• proposal title
• brief project description (2-3 pages)
• type of NSF-ANN project (NIRT or NER)
• indicate if your proposal fits into the societal and educational issues category for the NER competition.
Pre-proposals are due at the Graduate School Dean's Office, 333 Bascom Hall, by 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20.
For those projects selected, complete proposals must be submitted through FastLane or Grants.gov. The NSF deadline is Wednesday, November 15 for both NIRT and NER. Information about campus procedures for FastLane and Grants.gov is posted on the RSP web site.
If you have questions, send an email message to gsgrants@bascom.wisc.edu or call Jane Sherwood, 263-7274
