The National Science Foundation has issued the Nanoscale Undergraduate Education (NUE) program announcement as part of the Nanoscale Science and
Engineering Education (NSEE) Program Solicitation for 2005. The solicitation may be found at the following url:
http://www.nsf.gov/pubsys/ods/getpub.cfm?nsf05543
The goal of NUE is to integrate nanoscale science and engineering into curricula, especially through interdisciplinary collaborations in first- and second-year undergraduate courses. Awards will be made for up to $200,000 for two years.
Limit on Number of Proposals: UW-Madison may submit only one proposal as the lead institution with the following exception: an institution may submit a second proposal as the lead institution if it is focused on the societal, ethical, economic and/or environmental implications of nanoscale science and technology; two proposals focused on these areas are not allowed. The Graduate School will convene an ad hoc committee to review the applications internally and to select the projects to be forwarded to NSF.
Project descriptions should include information about the following, in accordance with NSF's proposal guidelines: goals and objectives; project plan, brief CV of PI, evaluation plan, and method for dissemination of results. A budget, current and pending support, and docouments related to institutional support are not required at this time.
Five copies of the 2-4 page project description should be submitted to the Graduate School Dean's Office, 333 Bascom Hall, by Wednesday, February 9, 2005, 4:00 p.m. Please include PI and Co-PI names and departments as well as PI contact information. If your proposal fits into the societal, ethical, economic and/or environmental implications of nanoscale science and technology categories, please so indicate.
For those projects selected, complete proposals must be submitted by FastLane. Information about campus procedures for FastLane is posted on the RSP Web site. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 263-7242, jmsherwo@wisc.edu, or Petra Schroeder at 265-4868, pschroeder@bascom.wisc.edu.
