The Undergraduate Research Centers program aims to expand undergraduate research to include first-and second-year college students and to enhance the research capacity, infrastructure, and culture of participating institutions. Research should be in the chemical sciences or in interdisciplinary areas supported by the chemical sciences.
The number of applications UW–Madison may submit is limited to one as the lead institution. For this reason we will convene an ad hoc committee to review the applications internally and to select the projects to be forwarded to NSF.
Please send an email message to gsgrants@bascom.wisc.edu by Wednesday, February 2, 2005 to inform us of your intention to submit a proposal. Include in your email message the names and departments of the PI and no more than four Co-PIs and a brief (one sentence) description of your proposal.
Send five copies of a 2-4 page description of the proposed project to the Graduate School Dean's Office, 333 Bascom Hall by 4:00, Wednesday, February 9, 2005. Your project description must contain statements about the project design elements and the research to be performed; a description of the partnerships and the management of the project; an evaluation plan; a dissemination plan; and relevant results from prior NSF support (if PI or co-PI has had nSF support in the last 5 years).
The NSF program solicitation provides detailed proposal preparation and submission instructions.
For those projects selected, complete proposals must be submitted using FastLane. The NSF deadline is Thursday, April 4, 2005.
Information about campus procedures for FastLane is posted on the RSP Web site. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 263-7274/ jmsherwo@wisc.edu or Petra Schroeder at 265-4868/ pschroeder@bascom.wisc.edu
